Land Deeds of Blacksburg, Virginia
Blacksburg land deeds are recorded in the Montgomery Courthouse in Christiansburg, Virginia. Deeds are written records of the transfer of land, building or personal property between two parties, the seller and the buyer. Deeds usually follow a pattern providing the date, the name of the two parties, their place of residence, the cost of the transaction, a description of the property by metes and bounds (a pole=16.5 feet, a chain is 4 poles=66 feet, a link = 0.66 feet (100 links in a chain)), and how the transfer would occur.
The deeds were recorded in books (volumes) with time. The early deeds are in listed in books A-Z, and there after by number. An index of the the Grantor (person selling the land) and Grantee (person buying) was created in order to locate a deed (volume and page noted) based on a person’s name, NOT by location. This makes tracking down deeds a challenge for those who live in the age of GIS.
We will post searchable indexes of specific people, and with time, will enter this data into an database to allow for easier searches. To search for specific people on this page use the Ctrl Key and “F” key. The deeds are not cross referenced so this may be the best option.
