Brief History
- The Montgomery School Board bought 14 acers of the Eakin property in 1961.
- Miss Margaret J. Beeks laid the cornerstone on October 20, 1962.
- The final cost of the school was about $416,666.
- The school (grades 1-7) opened in September 1963 with 847 students, of which 20 children were of African descent.
- The school was the first to integrate African descent children in the county. Only 6 students remained in the segregated Blacksburg Graded School on Harding Ave, so it closed.
- Children who previously attended the Blacksburg Primary (Draper & Roanoke Streets) and the Ellett Valley School shifted to Margaret Beeks in 1963.
