Luster’s Gate School was built in 1913 on land owned by J.K. Henderson. The community raised funds for materials and provided the labor to construct the building at a cost of $1,500.
The school had two classrooms serving grades 1–3 and 4–7. It had no electricity until the 1950s and never had running water. Two privies stood on either side of the playground, one for boys and one for girls. Large windows provided natural light, and two coal stoves heated the space. The wood frame building rested on concrete piers and was topped with a metal roof.
The school closed in 1963, and the Montgomery County School Board sold it to a neighboring resident, J.J. Agnew, for $1,500. It was later converted into a private residence.
